0.3.5 P2 - Bugfix Patch 5

Good evening!

I've released another bugfix patch. Most of these are minor, but it's still recommended to get the new version and move your save folder over. As always, the fixed version has replaced the main download, or you can just get it on this page.

IMPORTANT EDIT: As of 11:13 PM EST on the same day, I uploaded a fix for this fix, as it didn't address all the issues it was supposed to address. This does include a fairly major bug, so I would download this one.

BUGFIXES:

  • Prevented stairs in the Nortahn watchtower from breaking physics. If you have already broken physics and are stuck on top of the wall, you can get down by moving to the wall tile above/below the stairwell.
  • Challenger Bone Mages have gotten over their crippling fear of healing spells stemming from their previous role in another popular JRPG series, and now are properly healed by Heart of Gold (for half the usual value), instead of harmed.
  • Second Fix: After receiving complaints that the eastern watchtower roof prevents anyone from walking on it properly, Aida had it replaced with a walkable one. As such, it should no longer softlock you, even if you've already saved on top of it.
  • Second Fix: Even after being given a stern warning and then a final warning, the uncanny sound of malicious creeping darkness kept sneaking out of the Dead Tree Grove with Brill every time she left after completing The Dead Tree Grove. Clearly, drastic measures were required; as such, it has been given the dreaded stern final warning, and should properly go away after leaving the Grove now.

TEXT FIXES:

  • The creators of iSmash v3 accidentally wrote down "Freeze Ray" twice in its arcane documentation. This has been rectified, so Checking iSmash v3 will now show "Discharge" instead of "Freeze Ray" next to the data for Discharge.
  • A few quest names have been altered a little to prevent cutoff.

Okay, the other Thread got too long, so resetting... And updated to the Second Fix. The Creeping Darkness Sound seems to be properly contained!

Wow, I'm lucky or something that I landed back in Orvas and decided to stick around after failing to beat Ulfar the Ruthless's squad instead of resetting.

Without the Detective chasing Brill down, I never would've noticed the Altolato Altercation Quest Entry otherwise! I just kept skipping over it!

I thought Fremani acted pretty weirdly to Brill just barging into his office when I didn't know about the quest.

...

EDIT: Maybe Brill shouldn't find the Castle Town Fountain, "Strange" anymore, after the nightmare?
...
And can still get tons of Evandel Sample Merchant encounters in a row, but I'm running out of Aloe, anyway.
...
Footpads are sorta smart, but if I'm taking only 2 damage from each Multi-Shot Shot... Maybe try Thunder? Heh. I was worried for nothing.
...
What is the Escape battle option even for?

(+1)

Escape is still left over from the base options. It doesn't ever do anything, and now that I'm more aware of how the code works, I could probably just remove it.

Big Issue: Win or Lose, the Slime Trio doesn't give me back my Potions!

Before Winning

Won

...

Khid's Notes count don't update on being returned after the first one, infinite Sil glitch? Found 9/10? Or is that 10/10 plus the one that was counted?

...
Visual Bug: when looking at my Medal Points: Restoration uses 2 MP and its description says so, but in the Medal Points stat tracker in the Equips menu, it uses 3, giving me -1 MP.
...
Chamber of Limitations reminder happens right after getting the info after entering the room.

...
I guess some of the Bestiary entries are old, because I totally didn't need the Black Knight's help against Yg'Xel? Or is that when I fight him again??

And Yg'Xel and Cave Worm's entries are too long, unless we can scroll.

And the two back loopers at the north of the Nortahn Fort have the same dialogue. Intentional?
...
I found Ay'Ashas's army and punched out a Dust Devil and Sunfire Elemental, then lost to Ay'Ashas's, and didn't get the Dust Devil and Sunfire Elemental's Bestiary entries?
...

Blackboard Magic! So coool! Soo gonna reference that in a story!

I've got a fix ready for everything listed. Should have an update out soon.

The enemies not showing up in the Bestiary are being recorded, but for some reason the Bestiary's "highest enemy ID discovered" counter was stopping early. I'll figure out why this is happening, but until then, the next fix will just let you scroll all the way down to the very last undiscovered enemy. (Page Up and Page Down can also scroll through the menu faster.)

I'm glad you like the flavor text for the Blackboard! As for the Black Knight- that text is a relic from an earlier plan, where the Black Knight would show up there and help you fight a completely different monster.

Yay!

In other cool things, Dragr Frossverd that Spite Smashed stays seen:

...

Punching Dragr Frossulv or something makes it slide left

Reposition: Confirming, if I sample after a Challenge fight, I can't sample on the next floor until I beat the enemy. Is that intentional?

EDIT: Dread Rumble still happens.

...

Woo! Thanks! ... Oh no, Bone Mages are supposed to be healed? Okay, Hearts of Gold, fear Brill's fists even more!

Because with Life Guard, Unusual Hat, Lifeshield Robe, Imbued Regen Ring x2, Battle Brooch and Extra Edge, and 6 Attack Foci, my healing allowed me to survive to Endless Challenge - Normal Floor 62 by my fists alone, only needing 1 Hi-Tonic and some Earth Formulae because Double Snails tanked too well by the end.

Punch Strat is slllooooowww, so I just forfeited at 62. Gonna use my two new Tower Lord bestiaries to get another Attack Focus.

How do I unlock more Endless Challenges?

....

Took down Malxinne with Heavy Grav, an Overcharged Star Burst, leaving her with 5 HP to be hit by a punch? I tried that strat before and it left her with 100+? Did me using a Power Booster somehow reduce her Defense? Or could Mal have had a Stone Wall my previous try?

Yes, it is supposed to be one Sample per battle. Sampling after a fight on one floor and before a fight on the next are effectively the same, so I only allow one round of either per fight. That way, there's no frustration when you go up stairs and realize you forgot to Sample.

As for more Endless Challenges, these haven't quite been implemented yet. However, a Hard Endless Challenge will likely be added in the update after 0.3.6, and unlocked after the Main Story content in 0.3.6. (And eventually, an even harder one is planned for the post-game...)

I'm not sure what might've happened, but Malixinne's Block and Dark Stone can shave off 43 points of damage on their own, so it's possible you might have hit her when she was blocking the first time. And if you went from a Defense Focus oriented strategy to an Attack Focus strategy, combined with Power Booster increasing your total Attack by 50% of its base value (or straight-up doubling it if you used a Super), which gets multiplied further by the Overcharge? I can easily see that adding a huge increase in damage. Overcharge is incredibly powerful if you can safely use it. (That's the trick, of course- safely using a 65%/85% item and then immediately using it to attack instead of blocking or healing isn't always easy.)

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention the rumble. I just realized a "Fadeout BGS" command was missing on one page of the move events in the Grove. That should be fixed with the next update!

(1 edit) (+1)

Malixinne always blocks first turn, so I used that to hit her with a Power Buster, then relied on my healing to keep me alive while I drank the Overcharge.

I thought Attack doesn't affect Star Burst, my bad assumption! But you're saying it acts like every other attack, nice!

Just tested the Nortahn watchtower, sorry for not providing a picture! It's when you leave the watchtower from the top, that the sticking happens!

Aaargh! I thought for sure that that tile was walkable. Well, guess not...  I'll release another fix and edit the post to indicate it.

EDIT: Can pass through a barrier by walking straight up into it:

.............

Good luck in game making! I sympathize! Much harder than just the typo checking I do for others!
...

So, the non-item heals in "This Mine is Mine!" heh, don't count for the Healing People quest. Okay.
...
Overspaced between "been" and "touched"?

EDIT: And should the surprise enemy in the right room keep blowing up, the non-existent rockpile if I flee the room and return? ... EDIT Actually, I seem to be mistaken. There's no rockpile that's destroyed.

(1 edit) (+1)

Aw, geez. Now the railings are breaking physics too! Ah well, at least that one isn't really affecting anything- I'll just implement the patch and ship it with the next bugfix, along with that extra space. (Speaking of which- the fix has been fixed. There should no longer be watchtower-related softlocks or uncooperative ominous background sounds.)

As you likely guessed, there's no rockpiles being destroyed; the enemy in question is just burrowing out of the ground.

As for healed NPCs- the relevant quest involving this was implemented after the Daltah Mines were, but before the Quest Journal was a thing. The NPCs you healed will be counted in the total after you've spoken to a certain other character, and in the next fix/update, I could probably get the variable to update when opening the Quest Journal.

Thanks for being so patient. I really appreciate all the help!
