0.3.5 P2 - Bugfix Patch

Good afternoon!

I've just now released a patch to 0.3.5 P2 that fixes a lot of early bugs, including a major one that made progress beyond Evrandel impossible.

This fixed version has replaced the original 0.3.5 P2 download, so if you downloaded it before last night, you will need to download it again and move your saves over.

BUGFIXES:

  • The game no longer gets stuck when speaking to Genn and Adorgar after the second trip to the Earth Cave.
  • Soften is now hard-coded not to land on anyone with 100% Evasion. (Notably, Brill can still get splashed with enough water to be affected by Soften if she's benefitting from the few effects that give her a not-100% evasion rate, like the Lottery Ticket and Four-Leaf Tea.)
  • Challenger Brains felt a little scrambled before and wouldn't stop Blocking. It was some kind of hang-up about "state IDs", but Tower Lord Beatrix talked through it with them and they're feeling a lot more confident now, so they should properly be using their offensive spells again.
  • Brill should no longer be able to defy physics in the Torkenwatch Lighthouse and phase onto the roof tiles through the stairs.
  • The puzzle room in the Defenders' Rest is more colorblind-friendly, and Brill gets a (relatively minor) hint when examining the false walls.

Decided to try the Challenge Tower again for maybe the Chill Ray Shield since the second version of the Knight is a bit tough, or I'm impatient.

And I'm punching things to preserve my potions. Second battle now.

Fighting Vamphibians, while I have high defense. ... So, Poison Drain's x4 damage only applies to damage that gets past my defense, which is none of it?

(+1)

Not sure if you get notifications if I respond to myself, but I'm fighting a Bone Mage, a Heart of Gold and an Arcane Ooze. I throw a Condensed Fire Formula which takes out everything but the Ooze, which then casts 4x Reflect Wind, on me. Not on itself.

...uh oh. I must've accidentally hit the mousewheel over the "target scope"  box again. Thankfully that's a very easy fix.

I've got a night shift to get to, but definitely going to have a fix out early tomorrow.

Have a good shift!

EDIT: Hmm, what governs when a Meteo Soldier will guard an ally? Doesn't seem to happen every battle.

And finally see the Bandits. While I have 12 Defense. Totally stomping them. ... Now, I can make Imbued Regen Rings. Very cool. But where are Regen Rings?

Endless Tower records aren't working right? I won 16, then lost to Poisonous Snails and then my second go, lost after 4 to Brain doing something that Defense didn't save me from after being poisoned. But it's saying that my best record is 4?

EDIT Save for later: Reply at night. So, Super Pepperflasks and other Neutral Damage can get past Barrier Shift. Just need to make a lot of them.

Yep. 7 + user's Attack - foe's Defense. Vamphibians get shut down hard by Defense gear.

Black Knight throws out a Star Burst when his counter is over 40 Starforce, so that's a minimum of 70 damage before Defense with his Attack factored in. His AI is pretty complex, too- it boils down to "Always use Barrier Shift when possible, otherwise try not to get messed up too bad by the current Barrier Shift weakness".

His Block has a long delay to it, but he won't use it if he's weak to Thunder. However, a reward from one of the sidequests can help a lot against his Block.

We should only be able to Sample once, right? Not twice on the same tile?

In other things, Tor Torken's fun, and not hard at all, if I were only a bit more patient about it.

Now that's odd- the event iterates through all its lines, but no state gets applied and no switch gets changed. I've  never seen this happen before, and I'm not sure what could cause this, but I'll have to look into it in more detail. Maybe it has something to do with the switch machine, since that does a lot of variable-checking shenanigans.

That said, since it's a beneficial bug to the player, and doesn't break the balance in two, I'll wait to see if more instances of this bug come up. Is this the only time you've noticed this?

I'm not sure. I thought I saw it before, but maybe it was only in Tor Torken. I'll leave and see if I see it again, since I should probably check out the town anyway.

Disregard or delete that last message. Was entering Torken and it happened again. Not sure if I talked to the second Desk Guard before or after I Sampled.

Looks like I'll need to investigate this in more detail. Thanks for bringing it to my attention; I'll see if I can't find the cause and put together a fix. Should have some extra time tomorrow to look over it.

Good luck! I've found this third one, hopefully this is enough info to fix it!

Found out the issue! For some reason, it thought the Sample Cooldown state wasn't addable, but as the state is only ever added after you've already been handed drops, it should always be addable.

I can implement a very easy fix for this and ship it whenever I'm ready.

Since this might be a latest patch issue, talking about it here:

Got the Life Crystal in Levitt's Landing, can't figure out how to get to the sparkly spot under the town's port.

Now wondering if I missed a Life Crystal in the Frozen Reach. I only have 60 HP, while X-tonics imply that I should have a End Game HP of 150+.

Went through the Low Road. That "Killer Gems" plaque probably should have Brill remark on it differently depending on if she's coming from or going to, Levitt's Landing?

EDIT: And going down into the Tunnel from the second end, maybe she shouldn't be confused by its existence anymore?

Re: the sparkly spot in Levitt's Landing and the endgame HP: Both are as intended. I won't say why quite yet, but you'll probably find out pretty soon. Even if you missed a few Life Gems, there should be plenty more.

As for the Low Road dialogue, I could probably add a bit more to it real quick. It'll likely ship with the next update if/when I do.

Yay! Hotfix!

Unfortunately, I just discovered that Brill can break physics on the last floor of Defender's Rest, same way as in Torkenwatch Lighthouse.

And hitting Escape while on the Fight Damon? pre-battle question makes me fight him instead of fleeing?

(1 edit)

...shoot. Well, at least it won't completely halt progression.

With the Damon fight, it looks like I accidentally left the "Cancel" option on Choice #2, which is "Fight (Skip Cutscene)", rather than "Not yet..." like it often is. Oooooops. That'll  be fixed next update as well. In the meantime, you'll have to manually scroll to "Not yet..." in that dialog box. Come to think of it, I should add "Skip Pre-Battle Cutscene" to some other bosses at some point.

Thanks for catching all these issues! I'll have them fixed the next time there's an update (or another major bugfix... let's hope the latter doesn't happen)

(1 edit) (+1)

You're welcome! This is a fun and funny game!

Well, I finally managed to beat Damon and the Hidden Library, so now I can explore across the Bridge.

Is Swift Shield basically needed to easily beat Damon, btw?

And are all the Bounties across the bridge? I'm crossing the bridge right now. so I haven't checked the other side, but when Sampling on the Castle Town side, the only encounter I had was the Merchant.

(1 edit)

There is one encounter on the Castle Town side. It and the Merchant both have the same "pre-encounter" text, though.

Swift Shield is a strong choice for Damon. You could also increase your defense with Earth, smack him with a few Power Busters to weaken him and make his Dark Barrier useless, or even try the Catalytic Base formulas to blast him down with one hit using the Catalytic Trigger. There's also some gear and recipes you can unlock that can trivialize the fight if you leave him for later.

(1 edit) (+1)

Well, I broke physics in the Ice Orb's place.

"Walking upstairs
after walking on down"

Indeed! Very presumably unintentionally relevant poem! Great poem and explanation in one!
