0.3.5 P2 is live!
Good evening!
It took a few months longer than expected, but version 0.3.5 P2 of Ruphand: An Apothecary's Adventure is here, bringing with it two more dungeons in the main story!
There's only a few more updates left until Chapter 3 ends. 0.3.6 will probably add at least two more dungeons, just like 0.3.5 P2 did- but because I've learned a few things during the development process of 0.3.5 P2 (namely "Do eventing and THEN do detail work, so you can build the detail work around the eventing"), I should be able to bring it out faster.
In the meantime, enjoy Ruphand 0.3.5 P2!
NEW CONTENT:
- The main story continues! You can now enter the ground floor of Cloudtop Palace.
- Two dungeons and additions to Cloudtop Castle Town are implemented as part of the main story.
BUGFIXES AND QUALITY-OF-LIFE:
- If your game has no save files, the Main Menu defaults to New Game instead of Continue.
- Additional tutorial dialogue points out the Journal when leaving the Earth Cave.
- A few minor bugs, such as a tile passability issue in the Cloudtop Castle Town, have been squashed.

love the new update! there's a bug though during the main questline, where if you enter genn's office in the orvas apothecary shop, the cutscene will freeze and you'll be trapped in the doorway
That sounds serious. It's the first I've heard of this issue, but I should see why it's happening since I'm already doing a fair amount of bug-fixing.
I'll do a little testing later, but when did this freeze occur? Did you talk to Genn first?
this is during the "now what?" quest, when genn is talking to another character in the office, and right after this dialogue box, the game completely freezes
Oh, shoot. I just looked at that and I see the problem. That is major, and it locks out a lot of content, so it needs to be fixed now.
Don't know how that came about (because I've gone through this exact segment with no trouble before), but I need to get a fix for that out right now. I'll have that out tomorrow, ideally with some other bugfixes.
looking forward to it!
Well, I think I'm stuck at the bottom of Defender's Rest. I can't open the third Puzzle Lock on the third floor? It seems like the blue tiles are wrong or something and I don't feel like brute forcing it. That's 2^8 combinations? 256.
That last one's actually a bit tricky- look at the tiles on the floor around the last wall, and compare them to the ones on the floor around where the first two walls.
Admittedly, I could communicate the information better, especially since now that I look at it, it isn't colorblind-friendly as I've advertised. I've got a few ideas about how I could make this puzzle a bit less obtuse.
Thanks! I got it! I tried flipping the orientation at first.
And getting Lucky Girl Regen just spawned a huge line of 2-s rising and fading from Brill's position. I guess because it only lasts 10 turns? Gonna go battle Defender's Rest Boss now.
Does his Dark Barrier never run out?? Oh, it lasts 3 hits. Not 3 turns. ... Eh, I'm too slow and stuff. Gonna take on the Hidden Library.
Sometimes Regen effects run the "show number" code a bunch of times for some reason and I still have no idea why. At some point I'll have to really go into debugging it and finding out why that is.
Lol fighting Gallius who says I fought the monsters of the Lighthouse, instead I dodged everything, heh.
BUG: If I take the stairs down while still holding up, I can enter the wall. Leaving is possible though. Thankfully.
And could heal the Vampire Bite Victim with just Regen Formula (I), when the option calls for Regen III?
Ah, the stairs bug. My little brother found this one in a lot of stairs and I thought I'd got them all! Thanks for bringing this to my attention- I'll have it fixed in the next update.
The vampire bite victim can be healed by any Regen Formula- you're prompted with the basic formula first if you have it, then the other two.
I *think* Vampire Bite Victim said "Regen Formula III" even though I only had the basic one.
And monsters managed to fight me from the ground I'm facing, even though that's on a different level?
---------------------------
Lastly, if I get the Random Merchant Harvest event, and leave, it seems spamming Harvest quick enough will guarantee the Merchant appearing again?
---------------------------
Actually, fighting Challenger Brain by using Starburst to wipe out everything else. Now I'm just punching its Blocking Face 19 HP to death. So slow!
It's not even trying to kill me?
--------------------------
After battle chats are nice and funny!
---------------------
Should Ectoplasm be soaked even if the Water Formula misses?
Unfortunately, it's difficult to check the height of those encounter events. I'd need to go back and do a lot of reworking to get all of them.
The World Map sample data for the region where the Merchant is appears to be correct- you might have just gotten lucky. That said, I will test the variable updates, just to be sure.
It looks like the Brain is bugged- I used the wrong syntax for the AI and it'll keep checking for a state it doesn't have instead of Block. I'll fix this soon.
I'll look into the Evade/Soften issue as well. I set it to apply on a "Before Eval" so that it would apply the Soften debuff to the damage; however, I could include a check on these Evals so that it doesn't apply if the attack's going to be dodged. That said, evasion is a rare mechanic; it shouldn't affect much.
This all shouldn't be too long to fix; I could probably have a patch out within the week.
EDIT: Okay, I'm definitely going to have to release a fix because I ran into a very major bug with a Medal the new update introduced. It's pretty late in the game, but if you find the "Friend Defender" Medal, don't equip it without a temporary ally until I have a hotfix out. (Fortunately, the medal explicitly is only useful if you have a temporary ally!)
Woo! Time to update my install!
